Nox Timore is a low resolution game I found on GameJolt that was created by Vidas Šalavėjus.
The game features an eerily quiet ambience compared to the usual unsettling music that you experience in most horror games. Which, in my opinion, is worse than the music because it creates more tension in your mind as you wait for something to scare the shit out of you.
It also features dummy/mannequin-esque creatures that don’t move aside from turning their head to follow you as you move around. Aside from their slightly disturbing appearance they don’t seem to pose much of a threat throughout the game. However, they do cause some good jumpscares & make you feel like you should be looking behind you as you navigate the long, dark hallways.
There are also notes to be found throughout this area that taunt you about how you cannot escape & that these creatures will always be there to haunt you. In this respect it seems like this game is a way to portray a type of sleep disorder that, perhaps, the creator experienced/experiences.
So all in all, I’d say this is a good indie horror game(that’s also free). Low resolution doesn’t mean it won’t be able to be scary. So be sure to check it out on GameJolt!
